The other night I dreamt I was out on a vast lake – in an inflatable boat. Once I got out far enough, I looked into the depth of the water, I paused and felt a surge of excitement – but also fear. The water was deep and dark and I was out there all alone.
Being in deep, dark water within a dream symbolizes a confrontation with parts of yourself – or your life – that are hidden, mysterious, or not fully understood.
Suddenly, I was on the shore and as I turned to look at the horizon, I noticed there were boats on the water. All I could see were hundreds of masts, in a dense fog. The thing is, I didn’t see them while I was out there – only once I returned to shore and gazed back did I actually see I wasn’t alone out on the water.
This dream has been swirling in my mind ever since, and today as I pulled a card for the collective reading ‘The Empty Room’ came out.

The Vortex | The Abyss | The Nothing
The book reads:
” The Empty Room haunts us all. It is the universal and all too frequent feeling of lack, of wanting, of the craving to fill ourselves with something, anything. We too often attempt to remedy the discomfort of the empty room by any means necessary, leading us to a culture of more. Ironically, The Empty Room is filled to the brim with potential, yet we perceive it as not enough. This card is a cry for patience, for sitting within the barren wall of not knowing, for awaiting true vision and purpose before attaching to what we “should” do next to save our outward appearance. Be with the nothingness. Be with the impatience. The Empty Room has immense power. Let others wonder what you are doing. If you can settle in to the magic of emptiness, you will soon hear its whispers of wisdom.”
As I meditated on the meaning behind the card, my dream came to mind again. Perhaps you are feeling alone out there. Unsure – fearful yet excited. Within that liminal space where the ground feels shaky and you aren’t sure if the next step you take will be on solid ground.
Maybe you are unveiling parts of yourself that you do not quite understand yet. That can be a challenging place for those who dare to go beyond the realm of comfort and security.
You see, the thing is – you already did the brave thing by venturing out there into the unknown. Sure, there are a myriad of emotions surging through your veins at the moment – but this is only a phase, a season. This too shall pass, and on the other side of the uncertainty you will find parts of yourself that have been waiting to be seen and brought to light.
What you are undergoing is a sacred journey that not all will understand, because not all have dared to go into the depths. But you are not alone. There are other souls who, like you, have ventured out into the vast, deep and dark waters and we are all just trying to navigate the uncertainty.
Soon, you will find yourself on sacred solid ground again and life won’t seem so unpredictable or uncertain. You will feel more steady and you will feel more like yourself. Not yourself as in the mask you have put on for the world, but your true self. Because going into those deep dark waters is what brings those aspects of ourselves back to the surface.
Soon you will be on the shore, and who knows, you might want to even dive back in after some time. Whatever it is you decide, just know that you are not alone. Even in the moments where it might feel that way – out there in the thick of it. Once you get to shore you will realize there are lots of souls that are out there with you – Integrating parts of ourselves that have been hiding or out of sight. You are in good company, rest assured brave soul.
Sending you love and light for your journey.
Namaste
